Scope and Content
The SDDC records document the many important political campaigns supportive of gay rights from its founding in 1975 to 1992. The records are divided into five series; Bob Lynn, Administrative, Political Action, Outreach/Fundraising, and Miscellaneous.
-
The Bob Lynn series document the founding of the club and reflect the organization and operation of the SDDC under the leadership of Bob Lynn. The files are arranged in their original order, separated into Correspondence and Administrative. The files contain the original charter and names of charter members, Assembly Bill 1130 (March 28, 1977), and the correspondence between Margaret Fulton and Food Basket.
- Administrative
-
SDDC's main activities are the endorsements and campaigning for gay friendly political candidates. The Administrative series contains a wealth of material on the day to day functioning of the SDDC. Some of the items included in this series are minutes of both the Executive Board and the General Board, Correspondence, and Finances. The researcher should be aware that gaps exist in some of the files.
- Political Action
-
The Political Action series contains candidate surveys, lobbying materials, candidate endorsements, and propositions and ballots.
- Outreach/Fundraising
-
The Outreach/Fundraising series contains publicity flyers, mailings to attract new members, mailing rosters, and Gay Skate and Freedom Banquet fund-raising activities.
- Miscellaneous
-
The Miscellaneous files contain the Nicky Award presented to the SDDC in appreciation of the Gay Vote Project, campaign bumper stickers and buttons, and the Susan B. Anthony Award presented to Gloria Johnson.
